It's harvest time for maize. These are photos I took at Soy Sambu, but these scenes are being replicated all around the country right now. This top photo is a pile of maize cobs with the kernels still in place. The following one is a pile of the cobs after the kernels have been removed. They're typically used for cooking fuel, albeit rather inefficient.
The contraption (I don't know what it's called) in the two photos above removes the kernels from the cob. It's operated by the tractor engine.

Over here we call that contraption a corn sheller!! Much easier than doing it by hand. Our modern combines make shelling a part of the total process...the "sheller" is part of the combine.
