Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust is just down the road from where I live. I've been there now about four times and enjoy it each and every time! They raise orphaned elephants, rehabilitate them, and then reintroduce them into the wild to live out their remaining years. The organization has won several awards, along with world-wide notoriety.
It's quite a process they go through to achieve their objective. Did you know that elephants are very emotional creatures, just like we humans? When they lose their mother, they mourn and can even go into a depression. The workers live with them literally 24-7, even sleeping with them, in order to restore them to a healthy emotional state.
