Trip to Zanzibar, March 2013

This was my first time to visit Zanzibar. It consists of two islands and is a semi-autonomous part of mainland Tanzania.

On the ferry from Dar es Salaam to Stone Town, Zanzibar

Stone Town is a very fascinating place, full of history.

Stone Town is know for its ornately carved wooden doors.

It's also known for shuttered windows and narrow passageways.

A reminder of the slave trade that once took place here

After a few days exploring Stone Town, I went across the island to Jambiani Beach.

Determined to not get sunburned!

It was great to randomly stay in the same guesthouse as these American missionaries. They spend 3-6 months of the year in Kenya.

Fresh-squeezed (and iced) mango/passion juice. Ahh....

I had such spectacular views with flying back to Nairobi, via Mombasa.
It had been a wonderfully great trip!
